Nell’ambito della collaborazione in atto con la Facoltà d’Ingegneria dell’Università di Zagabria, nei giorni 26-29 aprile, sarà ospite della Facoltà il prof. Damir Kalpić, componente del Collegio dei Docenti del Dottorato italo-croato. Il prof. Kalpić nei giorni 27 e 28 aprile terrà due seminari (dalle 11:00 alle 13:00 presso la sala del Consiglio in Palazzo Bosco). Sarà gradita la partecipazione di tutti gli interessati.

Curriculum vitae del prof. Damir Kalpić
Damir Kalpic has been working at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Department of Applied Mathematics since 1971, first as a teaching assistant and now as full professor. He is teaching "Algorithms and Data Structures", "Information Systems", "Databases" and "Operations Research" in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He has been the mentor for about 200 graduation theses, and 16 M.S. theses and 7 doctorates.
He has written more than 150 texts and R&D papers, published locally and abroad. The majority of them reflect practical implementations. He is the senior member of the R&D team from the Chair of Computer Science. Together with his colleagues, he has completed more than 10 complex projects accepted in practice by industry and administration. They cover information systems development, operational research applications and databases. He was the principal researcher on the project "Computer Aided Organization and Decision Making" sponsored by the Croatian Ministry of Science and Technology.
From 1990 to 1992, he was the deputy dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. He was editor of the CIT Journal. He has been a member of the CIT editorial board and member of a number of international program committees. From 1994 to 2001, he was the chairman of the International Program Committee of the Conference "Information Technology Interfaces (ITI). In 2000, he was appointed IRMA World Representative for Croatia. He is a member of the Croatian and the British Operational Research Societies, Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences, IEEE and ACM. From October 2000 to September 2002, he served as vice dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in charge of scientific activities and international projects. He can communicate in English, German, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese, listed in descending order of fluency.

Seminario del 26 aprile 2005 - Development of software for higher education
The development of an integral university management information system began in early nineties of the last century with the software to support the student administration at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. Associated to it, a distributed academic library system was developed. In1998 a subsidised student aliment system was developed based on a proprietary credit card system. It has been in full use at the University of Zagreb since the beginning of 1999. Based on the successful implementations, a contract with the Ministry of Science and Technology was signed to develop an integral information system encompassing all the high educational institutions in Croatia. A new Java-written more generalised version has been developed and currently it has been implemented in a number of higher education institutions. Some experience regarding this project is presented.

Seminario del 29 aprile 2005 - Production planning system in a thermoplastic industry

Database and optimisation software have been developed for industry dealing with different raw materials, intermediate and final products. The production proceeds in multiple phases. The industrial processes engage renewable resources. They consume and produce material goods. A final product can be manufactured in different technological ways, e.g. using alternative industrial processes. Through the E-R data modelling: identification of entities, attributes, primary keys, functional dependencies, relationships and authorisations, the model of functions
was produced implicitly. The equations in linear programming model can be grouped as material balance and resource capacity balance. The objectives can be the maximum contribution, the minimum of the maximum duration or the closest fit to the market requirements. In multi- criteria's models the STEP method is used. The model can be formed for a single time period or for two periods: the actual and the future. During very harsh times for the company, the system was developed and implemented in parallel to reengineering of some company processes and
redefinition of goals. Nowadays, it is among the most successful companies in Croatia.
